The SIU Choral Union and Concert Choir will join with the SIU Wind Ensemble to present Karl Jenkins The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace. Jenkins is a Welsh composer who is among the most-performed living composers around the world. The Armed Man may be his most performed work.

Dr. Susan Davenport and Dr. Christopher Morehouse will direct.

The SIU Choral Union and SIU Concert Choir, accompanied by chamber orchestra, will perform the Requiem in D minor by Gabriel Fauré and various arrangements of folk songs of the British Isles, as collected by Cecil Sharp.

The Choral Union and Concert Choir will join with the SIU Opera and orchestra to present Gian Carlo Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, as well as Mark Hayes’s International Carol Suites, including Carols of Eastern Europe, Carols of Western Europe, and Carols of the British Isles.

… Something Borrowed, Something Red, White and Blue

The SIU Choral Union and Concert Choir will be joined by the SIU Wind Ensemble for a program of Brahms’s Begräbnisgesang, Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, and Grace Before Sleep, a newly-commissioned work written by composer Dana Wilson for choir but arranged for the Wind Ensemble by Susan La Barr.

This concert will once again bring the SIU Choral Union and SIU Concert Choir together with a full orchestra! The program will consist of Vivaldi’s Gloria (R589) and selections from Handel’s Messiah, and we’ll once again be joined by the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra.

The SIU Choral Union and the SIU Concert Choir will perform works by by composer Will Todd, a contemporary English composer of choral and jazz works, including:

• Jazz Missa Brevis
• The Lord is My Shepherd

The choirs will be accompanied by both jazz ensemble and piano.

The Southern Illinois Symphony  Orchestra will join the SIU Choral Union and Concert Choirs for this concert.

This concert, a week before Thanksgiving, is bound to put you in the holiday spirit, with music by several of the finest Baroque composers:

• Magnificat, Antonio Vivaldi
• “Jauchzet frolocket” from Christmas Oratorio, J.S. Bach
• Highlights from Messiah, George Frideric Handel

The Choral Union will be joined by the SIU Concert Choir for this performance, under the direction of Dr. Susan Davenport, Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music at SIU-C.
