The SIU Choral Union and Concert Choir will join with the SIU Wind Ensemble to present Karl Jenkins The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace. Jenkins is a Welsh composer who is among the most-performed living composers around the world. The Armed Man may be his most performed work.
Dr. Susan Davenport and Dr. Christopher Morehouse will direct.

The SIU Choral Union and Concert Choir will be joined by the SIU Wind Ensemble for a program of Brahms’s Begräbnisgesang, Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs, and Grace Before Sleep, a newly-commissioned work written by composer Dana Wilson for choir but arranged for the Wind Ensemble by Susan La Barr.

Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem is unmistakably the work of an accomplished opera composer. Trumpets sound a call to judgement in the Tuba mirum, the Rex tremendae evokes unworthiness before the King of Tremendous Majesty, a soprano interrupts to cry out for mercy and a tenor radiates hope for all who do so.
This performance of Verdi’s dramatic work will bring the Choral Union together the choirs and orchestras of SIU Carbondale and Southeast Missouri State University, all under the direction of Dr. Susan Davenport, Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music at SIU-C.
